The American Dental Association recommends that you brush your teeth twice each day. This will help to remove residual food particles and plaque from the faces and contours of your teeth.

Many people use a basic manual toothbrush with a soft-bristled brush head. There are also individuals who enjoy the convenience of a mechanical or battery-operated toothbrush.

On a clinical level there is little, if any difference, in the effectiveness of one over the other. Just be sure to look for the ADA’s Seal of Acceptance when shopping for a new toothbrush.

Since it is more a matter of personal preference, finding the right toothbrush for you and your loved ones helps keep you encouraged to brush twice each day.

It’s also important to note that the ADA also recommends flossing at least once per day. Be sure to floss between each of your teeth, along the gumline, and behind each of your last molars.

Attending your twice-annual dental checkup at Dr. Frederick Prehn‘s dental office is also critical for maintaining clean teeth and a healthy mouth. If he notices an area of concern he will present you with the applicable treatment options or preventative measures.

If you live in the Wausau, Wisconsin area and you need further oral hygiene advice, you can always call 715-842-1270 to schedule a checkup at Prehn Dental Offices.
