Sometimes poor oral hygiene habits can allow a minor cavity to develop on one of your teeth. Even if you manage to ignore the increasing discomfort and sensitivity, the area of tooth decay will grow. If you have noticed a problem with one of your teeth, it’s best to have it examined as soon as possible by our dentist, Dr. Frederick Prehn.

In a case where too much of the healthy tooth enamel has been lost to treat the tooth with a filling, the dentist might recommend a dental crown. This process will replace the entire tooth enamel layer with an alternate material such as a metal alloy, gold or dental grade porcelain. After the remaining enamel has been removed, an impression will be taken of the tooth. The dental crown will be created in a state dental lab. Once it is ready, you will need to return to Prehn Dental Offices for a second appointment. Dr. Prehn will then cement it onto the remaining core structure of the tooth with a strong dental adhesive. This will complete the dental restoration treatment, allowing you to enjoy the natural function of the previously compromised tooth.

If you live in the Wausau, Wisconsin, area and you have a tooth with a large cavity you should call 715-842-1270 to have it examined and treated at Prehn Dental Offices.
