Partials & Dentures
Partials use your remaining teeth to hold plastic teeth with metal framework in place. Clasps attach to your teeth for retention. Partials are not as good as bridgework, but cost less. The results are acceptable. Dentures stay in by suction. Many patients use implants to add retention to dentures.
Treatment Partials “Flipper Partials”
Treatment partials are commonly called “flipper partials”; which are normally used for a temporary situation---such as a lost tooth prior to implant placement. Unlike a conventional partial, a flipper partial is much less expensive and may have bent-wired clasps to hold the partial in place. Treatment partials (or flipper partials) are not recommended to be worn for extended periods of time as they can cause undo stress on the adjacent teeth that they hook on to. If your Dentist suggests a treatment partial or flipper partial, hopefully there will also be a long-term strategy as to the final restoration that will be performed for your dental health.
