Face bow: (1) See headgear: (2) A device used by dentist to translate the positioning of the teeth relative to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) so plaster models of a patient's teeth can be mounted in the same relative position on an articulator.
Fee Schedule: (1) A schedule of fees; (2) Predetermined fees paid be the insurance company regardless of what the dentist charges.
Filtrum: The dimple or indention under the nose directly above the upper lip.
Fixed Appliance: Any dental device that is cemented or bonded to the teeth.
Fixed Partial Denture: A fixed appliance (prosthesis) that replaces missing teeth. A bridge is a series of crowns (abutments and pontics).
Flared Teeth: A term used to indicate the position of the teeth. The upper teeth are normally flared labially (toward the lip).
Fluoride: A chemical in most brands of toothpaste and often added to water that binds with the tooth's surface, making it harder (less soluble) and more resistant to decay.
Frenum: The pink colored soft tissue that attach your lips, cheeks and tongue to your mouth. The lingual frenum can be easily seen in a mirror when you lift your tongue. The upper and lower labial frenums are also easy to see when you pull your lip out to exposure.
